Downloading and Installing KitCAD i3

Description

The KitCADi3.zip archive (same as KitCADi3_setup.zip) allows advanced users or automated scripts to build KitCAD i3 from source files. The intended target platforms of operation can range from Windows to Linux. A advanced knowlage of programing languages and web software applications is required to configure all installed functions. Other downloads are required because some parts of KitCAD i3 are currently maintained by 3rd parties, and are NOT included with the KitCAD i3 source build.

Install - without Archive manager;

From the Desktop, Highlight the file titled KitCADi3.zip and click to open; Or with a Right click and select Explore from the pop-up context menu.
On the opened window titled 'KitCADi3.zip' select the File menu, and start the archive manager by clicking the menu item of 'Extract All'.
The Extraction Wizard will start with a welcome message, press the Next button.
Enter the Destination directory of C:\Program Files\Kitchen\KitCADi3\ (same as image shows)

Press the Next button (and answer Yes to prompts for file replacement).
Start the KitCAD i3 config process.

Install - with Archive manager;

From the Desktop, Highlight the file titled KitCADi3.zip and click to open with WinZip (or other archive file manager)
On the opened WinZip window titled 'KitCADi3.zip' select the Extract icon.
Enter the Extract to location of C:\Program Files\Kitchen\KitCADi3\ (same as image shows)
Select the options of Use folder names and Overwrite existing files (same as image shows)

Press the Extract button.
Start the KitCAD i3 config process.

Configure - KitCAD i3;

This, the linux source build can not be run out-of-the-box. There is no easy way to configure all the files, unless you read all the code. However a webserver script exists that can configure the majority of KitCAD i3 in a few seconds. Advanced users should use something like the i3 install script to configure files (not perfect all of the time). If deployed accross multiple domains then other security settings may need to be configured for a crossdomain.xml file and CORS headers.

The KitCADi3_w32_setup.exe installer allows the majority of Windows users to run KitCAD i3. The only intended target platform of operation is Windows. No knowlage of programing languages or web software applications is required to configure all installed functions. All required software parts in this version are included for easy operation out-of-the-box.

This, the TEST Setup version of KitCAD i3 loads Object Item file data from a KitCAD 2 library system. The KitCAD i3 file load operates on LocalHost HDD using the Internet protocol scheme of File://

Install - with Setup manager;

From the Desktop, Highlight the file titled KitCADi3_w32_setup.exe and click to open; Or with a Right click and select Open from the pop-up context menu.
If prompted by Unknown Publisher security alerts then Install a digital certificate

, or/and click Run when prompted.
The Setup will start with a welcome message, press the Next button.
Enter the Destination location of C:\Program Files\Kitchen\KitCADi3\ (same as image shows)

Press the Next and Finish button/s.

Install - viewer support;

If required, Install Third party software viewers that are required to render content; See 3D/2D viewer help.

Running - KitCAD i3;

Open a Web Browser and enter the url of file://localhost/C:/Program%20files/Kitchen/KitCADi3/test/_Index.html (local copy).

Standard User Account/s : The TEST Setup of KitCAD i3 (this) may not show a applicaiton generated File Dialog Window but displays the HTML upload page when opening a kp2 file.
As a trial work-around run the KitCADi3_file_localhost_test_UAC_support.zip Setup.exe program as an Administrator; And follow the included readme.txt instructions for each User Account that will run KitCAD i3 from the Standard Users roaming profile; See the KitCAD Standard User Account Support Installer notice for instructions and download link.

2006 NOTE : The TEST Setup of KitCAD i3 (this) overwrites and stops a previous 2006 version of KitCAD 2 titled KitCAD2v5.exe from downloading the online Demo library system. As a work-around fix; Install KitCAD2v5.exe and the Demo library system first before attempting this Install. Un-Installing this install of KitCAD i3 removes some of the Demo library system.

2010 NOTE : The TEST Setup of KitCAD i3 (this) overwrites the KitCAD 2 re-release 2010 version of the Demo library system. Un-Installing this install of KitCAD i3 removes some of the 2010 re-release Demo library system, see Setup Guide for further help when repairing the KitCAD 2 re-release 2010 version.

Note/s : The w32 version must be also installed due to the default Object system being located in the C:\Program Files\Kitchen\KitCAD\Objects\ folder, failure to do so will result the x86 (this) version showing "file not found" message dialogs when attempting to draw or load KP2 files.
The x86 (this) version does not support KitCAD i3 mode 2.27 options.

Download xampp 1.8.1, 1.8.2 (for XP/NT/2003/Vista), 1.8.3 (for win7 or better)
As an example, Run the xampp 1.8.1 installer.
The Setup will start with a welcome message
Enter the Destination folder of C:\xampp (or as image shows)

Press the Install and Finish button/s.
The Destination folder above for XAMPP Setup version 1.7.3 is C:\ while ALL other versions use C:\xampp

Running - XAMPP and KitCAD i3;

From the Desktop Start button | All Programs | XAMPP for Windows | click the XAMPP Control Panel icon.
The XAMPP Control Panel Application will be shown, click the Start button for Apache.
From the Desktop Start button | All Programs | Kitchen | KitCADi3 | exe | click the KitCAD i3 icon;

NOTE : Users of the TEST Setup KitCAD i3 version may find that KitCAD i3 is no longer showing the splash screen link for XAMPP served pages.
Re-Installing the TEST Setup version of KitCAD i3 will correct this issue. See Work-around for further help.

Install - WAMPP;

Download wampp 2.2, or better.
Run the wampp 2.2 file archive in the exact same way as shown above (with Destination folder of C:\).

NOTE: See the readme.txt file in the http://localhost/library/i3/php/ subfolder for instructions to download and install PHP Pear. If required install PHP5. The PERL file interperter is required for this webserver version of KitCAD i3 and must be manualy installed by advanced users.

From the Desktop Start button | Run | C:\wampp2\apache\bin\apache.exe
The Apache console window will be shown.

NOTE : Users of the TEST Setup KitCAD i3 version may find that KitCAD i3 is no longer showing the splash screen link for WAMPP2.2 served pages.
Re-Installing the TEST Setup version of KitCAD i3 will correct this issue. See Work-around for further help.

The KitCAD i3 KGC for WAMPP2 download is no longer updated: Take care when downloading newier versions of WAMPP2 as they may require end users to follow an updated install instruction (not this); This page of instruction was written for the last known update of WAMPP2 (at SourceForge.net) which was on the 6th June, of 2003.
